Committee to explore concerns around diversity in the Venture Capital market
Why do female business founders receive less than 5 per cent of all venture capital investment? Why does this figure fall to under 2 percent for black entrepreneurs?
Meeting details
MPs will use the session to explore concerns about the lack of gender and ethnicity diversity in VC investments, and within the industry itself.
The British Business Bank has shown that all-female founder businesses received just 2p of every pound of equity investment in 2021, while all-male founder teams received 84p. Businesses with mixed-gender founders received 14p.
Women account for just 20 per cent of all VC investment roles, according to Diversity VC, while 83 per cent of investment committees have no women members.
In the session, MPs will explore the scale and ramifications of the lack of diversity, and what can be done by investors, VC firms and the Government to improve diversity in the sector.
Witnesses’ views are also likely to be sought on what the consequences are for the UK economy and wider society, as well as the appetite for change within the industry.
