Ukraine refugees - Levelling-Up Committee questions Ministers

The Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (LUHC) Committee will question Felicity Buchan MP and Baroness Scott of Bybrook, Joint leads on Ukraine and Parliamentary Under Secretaries at the Department for Levelling-Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), on the steps the Government has been taking to help support Ukraine refugees.

Meeting details

At 4:00pm: Oral evidence
Work Ukraine Refugee Scheme (Non-inquiry session)
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Housing and Homelessness) at Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Faith and Communities) at Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities
Director of the Homes for Ukraine Scheme at Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities

Questions from the cross-party Committee are likely to focus on the rising cases of homelessness among Ukrainian refugees, support for Ukrainians to live independently, and the pressures on hosts and local authorities.

The Committee has published today two items of Ministerial correspondence following earlier letters from the Committee on the support for Ukrainian refugees. This includes a Ministerial letter responding to Committee concerns regarding the potential homelessness of Ukrainian families this winter and of difficulties in accessing private rented accommodation (see original Committee letter here). There is also Ministerial correspondence replying to the Committee’s latest call for the integration of the Ukraine Family Scheme and the Homes for Ukraine Scheme.

As part of the Committee’s ongoing work in this area, the LUHC Committee recently held an engagement event in Parliament to hear from those with lived experiences relating to the Homes for Ukraine and Ukraine Family scheme. The Committee spoke to hosts and guests (under both schemes) and also to local authority workers, including Rimma, and charity workers. A summary note of the engagement event will be published on the Committee’s website on Monday afternoon.
