Premier League and FA face questions on sexism and inequality in football
The Premier League and the Football Association face questions from MPs on tackling sexism and inequality in football. Issues on the agenda include diversity at the elite level of women’s football, safety concerns for women at football matches, girls’ access to football, and equalities issues relating to the England football team at the men’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Committee also hears from pundit Jacqui Oatley who has spoken out about misogynistic abuse in the industry as well as the campaign group The Three Hijabis who have successfully campaigned for banning racist football fans from matches and introducing mandatory sexual consent training introduced for Premier League footballers.

The Committee’s previous session on sexism and inequality in football heard from former England player Fern Whelan who said women’s teams can sometimes be seen as an “afterthought”.
The Committee is interested in examining how the opportunities presented by the Lionesses’ Euro 2022 win can be maximised in encouraging girls’ participation and challenging harmful cultures in football.
