First session of Tax Reliefs inquiry held by MPs

The Committee’s inquiry is examining the reliefs available to individuals and businesses while exploring whether the benefits to the UK economy achieved by the system justify the cost to the UK Exchequer in foregone tax revenue.

In the inquiry’s opening session, MPs will hear from experts on the principles of tax reliefs, with likely topics including whether the system offers good value for money, to what extent it is susceptible to abuse, and how to improve it.

The session will also use Video Game Tax Relief and Research & Development Tax Relief as case studies to explore how tax reliefs can impact industry in the UK and the wider economy.
