Sexual violence in conflict examined by Foreign Affairs Committee

The Foreign Affairs Committee holds a one-off evidence session on the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI).

The session focuses on the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s PSVI, which aims to raise awareness of the extent of sexual violence in armed conflict and “rally global action to end it” through the use of diplomacy, development and defence.

Last week the Government hosted an international conference on preventing conflict-related sexual violence, during which the Foreign Secretary published the Government’s new Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict strategy.

In this session the Committee hears from two panels of witnesses. The first panel comprises of advocates with experience of conflict related sexual violence and torture. For the second panel, the Committee will hear from expert witnesses from the Centre for Women, Peace and Security at the London School of Economics and the International Criminal Court.
