Skills and the UK’s creative industries
The House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee examines whether the UK creative sector has the supply of skilled workers it needs to remain competitive.
Meeting details
In the first session the Committee will explore projections of skills shortages in the creative industries over the next 5-10 years; examine the risks these pose to UK economic growth; and evaluate the extent to which the Government’s approach to skills and apprenticeships is fit for purpose for the creative sector.
The second session will feature questions on whether the focus on STEM in schools should be refreshed to give the arts greater emphasis; and the role organisations within the creative industries can play to develop and update the skills of their workforce.
Possible questions to the witnesses include:
- What skills will be needed over the next 5-10 years?
- Where will we see the greatest shortages and what impact will this have on the creative sector?
- Do the government’s skills and education policies do enough to address the problem?
- What role can industry play in addressing these challenges?
