21 November 2022 - Firearms licensing regulations in Scotland - Oral evidence

The session will explore whether firearms licensing regulations are fit for purpose in Scotland, and whether any changes are necessary by the UK Government.

In light of the tragedy which took place on the Isle of Skye, the Committee is considering whether current firearms licensing regulations are fit for purpose.  The Committee recently held two evidence sessions examining a number of different areas, ranging from the requirements for new licensing applications and renewals to the provision of mental health support.

The session is also likely to explore police forces’ role in the firearms application process, as well as whether current statutory guidance on licensing is adequate, and being used effectively and consistently.
