MPs question Equality and Human Rights Commission on re-accreditation to A-status and future plans

The Women and Equalities Committee will question the Equality and Human Rights Commission (ECHR) on its recent UN re-accreditation process, 2021-22 annual report, and new three-year strategic plan in its regular scrutiny of the body.

Meeting details

At 2.30pm: Oral evidence
Inquiry Work of the Equality and Human Rights Commission
Chairwoman at Equality and Human Rights Commission
Chief Executive at Equality and Human Rights Commission
Chief Strategy and Policy Officer at Equality and Human Rights Commission

MPs will question the ECHR’s Chairwoman, Baroness Kishwer Falkner, Chief Executive, Marcial Boo, and Chief Strategy and Policy Officer, Melanie Field.

The session will cover the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions’ re-accreditation of the ECHR as an A status National Human Rights Institution. A-rated organisations are deemed compliant with the UN’s Paris Principles on human rights standards. MPs are expected to ask about recommendations made by the Sub-Committee on Accreditation to the ECHR, including the recommendation that it strengthen its relationship with civil society.

The previous Women and Equalities Committee’s Report, Enforcing the Equality Act, which found that the EHRC’s enforcement activity had declined substantially over time, may be discussed.
