Health and Data Ministers to face questions on data sharing plans
Health Minister Lord Kamall and Data Minister Julia Lopez will face questions from the Commons Science and Technology Committee, in the final session of its inquiry into the right to privacy: digital data. MPs will examine the Government’s proposals to share NHS health data for research and innovation, including the recent Goldacre review, and the Government’s proposals to change data protection law, expected in the Data Reform Bill.
Likely areas of questioning
The Committee will also question the Information Commissioner, the National Statistician and the heads of the bodies within Government responsible for the trustworthy use of citizens’ data. The session will scrutinise the Government’s approach to sharing citizens’ data across the public sector and with industry, with a focus on the privacy concerns, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the lessons from the stalled roll-out of the programme to link patients’ GP data last year.
