Lords energy inquiry: what market model is best for encouraging investment in Long Duration Storage and hydrogen?
On Tuesday 10 May, the Economic Affairs Committee holds its next evidence sessions on UK energy supply and investment.
At 3pm, the Committee will hear from Marco Alverà, Chief Executive, Snam and Matt Harper, Chief Commercial Officer, Invinity Energy Systems.
At 4pm, the Committee will hear from Jason Bordoff, Co-founding Dean, Columbia Climate School.
Questions the committee is likely to cover in these sessions include:
- How can hydrogen be used in a decarbonised energy system? How much might the UK need by 2030 and by 2050 - and what level of investment is required to achieve this?
- Is the UK Hydrogen Strategy’s ‘twin track’ approach of supporting both green and blue hydrogen the right approach?
- What are the advantages of flow batteries as energy storage?
- How credible is the UK Government’s energy security plan?
- What should governments be doing to help consumers with high energy bills over the next few winters?
- The UK Government is facilitating renewed investment in North Sea oil and gas. What difference might this make to both energy security and affordability?
- Do recent price spikes in wholesale market indicate that policies to liberalise the European gas market over the last couple of decades were a mistake?
