In its fourth evidence session on Net zero aviation and shipping, the Environmental Audit Committee will explore how the fuels powering our flights can be made more sustainable as the UK strives to meet net zero.

Across two panels, MPs will first discuss the potential of sustainable aviation fuels with green fuel experts including the Green Alliance and Zero Petroleum. On the second panel, MPs will have the opportunity to question major airlines including IAG (owners of British Airways, Aer Lingus and Iberia), easyJet and Loganair about the potential of zero emission flight technologies being rolled out to aircraft flying commercial passenger services.

Among the issues likely to be discussed on Wednesday are:

• How private sector companies are harnessing the potential of sustainable aviation fuels;
• Which fuels companies are developing, and how close they are to commercialisation;
• What policy levers the Government could use to support the take-up of alternative fuels;
• How effective market-based measures are at reducing emissions.
