Spring Statement 2022: Scrutiny continues with evidence from economists

The Treasury Committee will hear from leading economists as part of its scrutiny of the Spring Statement at 1:45pm on Wednesday 30 March.

Likely areas of questioning

In the session, representatives from the Institute for Government, Resolution Foundation and Institute for Fiscal Studies will discuss the measures taken by the Chancellor, including changes to income tax and National Insurance.

MPs are likely to probe the witnesses on their assessment of the policies laid out in the Spring Statement, including levels of support for low-income households and the likelihood of the necessity for further action in the future.

The Committee could also discuss which groups are most heavily impacted by the cost of living crisis, and the continuing impact of the war in Ukraine and sanctions on Russia.

The session forms part of the Committee’s inquiry into the Spring Statement 2022.
