In the first evidence session of its new inquiry into the UK’s approach to displaced people, the Committee will hear evidence from witnesses who have experienced displacement, as well as those who have worked closely with displaced people.
Global displacement is currently at an all-time high. As of the end of June 2024, 122.6 million people were forcibly displaced, including refugees, internally displaced people and asylum seekers. The number of people forcibly displaced has increased by more than 180% since 2012.
MPs are likely to ask witnesses in the first panel why they were forced to leave their home, where they travelled to, and how effective the support they received was.
In the second panel, MPs are likely to ask witnesses about the support they have been able to offer displaced people, for instance how their programmes are designed to include women and girls, and how they maintain educational programmes for displaced children.
