Committee Chair: Government must put money where its mouth is on nutrition

4 February 2025

The Chair of the International Development Committee has today called for the Government to take further action to fund nutrition-focused programmes around the world.

The statement comes after several celebrity chefs delivered a letter to Downing Street, calling on Foreign Secretary David Lammy to commit £500 million over the next five years to nutritional programmes worldwide.

It also comes after the Committee heard evidence from Development Minister Anneliese Dodds for its inquiry into the UK’s contribution to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2: achieving zero hunger.

Chair comment

Sarah Champion, Chair of the International Development Committee, said:

“As some of our most celebrated chefs have recognised, delivering nutrition is one of the most valuable interventions we can make in a child’s life.

“Better nutrition results in children living healthier, happier and safer lives. I encourage the Government to put its money where its mouth is and fund nutritional programmes for the world’s poorest.”
