Rt Hon David Davis MP, Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, has responded to the Chair's letter seeking urgent answers on the outstanding human rights questions raised by the EU Withdrawal Bill.
- Letter from the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union
- Inquiry: EU Withdrawal Bill
- Joint Committee on Human Rights
Previous Correspondence
The Chair first wrote to the Department for Exiting the European Union on the 2 November pressing for clarification on the meaning and legal status of certain human rights after the UK leaves the EU, since the Bill sets out that the Charter of Fundamental Rights will not be retained in UK law after exit day.
The Department's subsequent response on 20 November did not satisfactorily address the issues raised in the Committee's original letter.
Following the Department's response, the Chair again wrote to the Secretary of State seeking urgent answers on the outstanding human rights questions raised by the EU Withdrawal Bill.
