Is the legal system protecting the rights of detainees? Joint Committee on Human Rights hear evidence from lawyers on immigration detention.

Purpose of the session
Do detainees have prompt and sufficient access to legal aid and enough opportunities to challenge their detention? Should decisions to detain people have independent oversight? Are vulnerable detainees protected by the current system? The Joint Committee on Human Rights will discuss these topics with a group of lawyers as part of its ongoing inquiry.
