Attorney General questioned on Government’s human rights priorities

The Joint Committee on Human Rights will question the Attorney General, Lord Hermer KC on the work of the Attorney General’s Office.

The Attorney General is the chief legal adviser to the Government. The session will be Lord Hermer’s first time before the Committee since his appointment. It will provide an opportunity for the Committee to question the Attorney General on his aims for the role and the Government’s approach to human rights and the rule or law.
The Committee are also likely to ask questions on a number of human rights issues and its current inquiry work. This could include forced labour in UK supply chains, IPP sentences, violence against women and girls, and the proposed “Hillsborough Law”.
