Human Rights of asylum seekers in the UK examined
26 October 2022
The Joint Committee on Human rights examines the rights of asylum seekers in the UK on Wednesday 26 October when it takes evidence from representatives of Anti-Slavery International, the Refugee Council and the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants.
The session will provide an overview of the key issues relating to human rights affecting asylum seekers in the UK. This is likely to include the reasons for people claiming asylum in the UK and the availability of safe and legal routes. It will examine the situation for asylum seekers once they are in the UK including the right to work and the use of electronic tags to monitor their location. The session will also examine the framework in place to combat modern slavery and human trafficking, and previous claims by the Government that it is “used to game the system” to avoid deportation.
