Following its most recent round of inspections, while praising the Fire and Rescue Service as highly skilled and respected by the public, the Inspectorate have issued eleven causes for concern for the 13 fire services reviewed in 2021. The Chief Inspector has also stated that there needs to be fundamental reform to ensure the service becomes more effective and efficient.
The Committee will explore the reasons for this recommendation. It will also look at the performance of the service in the face of additional challenges posed by the pandemic, as well as broader issues raised including recruitment challenges and diversity. The session will also provide an opportunity for Sir Thomas Winsor to give his reflections in his final months as Chief Inspector.
