Committee to question AC Neil Basu and Sara Khan on counter-extremism and counter-terrorism

22 September 2020

The Home Affairs Committee will take evidence from Metropolitan Police’s Head of Counter Terrorism Policing, AC Neil Basu, and head of the Commission for Countering Extremism, Sara Khan, on Wednesday 23 September.

Purpose of the session

The session will investigate the state of extremism in the UK and the work being done to counter it. This is likely to include the Commission for Countering Extremism's views on the Government’s counter-extremism strategy and its call for the adoption of a new definition of ‘hateful extremism’.

The Committee will also examine the issues facing counter-terrorism policing in the UK, including the ability to disrupt and prevent terrorist activity, the effectiveness of deradicalisation and disengagement programmes, and plans for European co-operation on security and counter-terrorism after the ending of the Brexit transition period.
