Purpose of the session
The Committee will take evidence from Stephen Shaw on the Government's progress in implementing his 2016 report recommendations on the welfare in detention of vulnerable persons and discuss the findings of his follow-up report, published in July 2018. Shaw's first review exposed the serious damage caused to mental health by immigration detention and made 64 recommendations to improve the welfare of those held in detention.
