English Channel crossings examined by MPs

The Home Affairs Committee will hear from charities with front line experience in responding to the recent upward trend of attempted crossings across the English Channel.

Purpose of the Session

The session is likely to cover:

  • Nature and scale of people attempting to cross the English Channel and how this has varied over time;
  • Conditions of migrant camps in Calais and accessibility to basic services;
  • UK Government policy, including support to unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and its application of the Dublin Regulations; and
  • UK Government operated resettlement schemes for vulnerable refugees
