Committee takes evidence on hate crime and asylum accommodation

In a multi-inquiry hearing, the Home Affairs Committee hears from Demos, and the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, on the threat from the far right as part of their hate crime inquiry; and Local Authorities in a new inquiry examining asylum accommodation contracts.

As part of its inquiry into hate crime, the Committee will hear from representatives of think tanks, Demos and the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, on the current threat posed by the far-right in the UK.

The session is likely to cover:

  • Influence of fake-accounts and Russian-bots in inspiring Islamophobia and the far-right agenda
  • Prevalence and growth of far-right extremism in the UK
  • Utilisation of the internet and social media to propagate far-right ideologies and international support
  • Government and industry's response to countering far-right extremism both in the online space and the offline world

  • Operation of the dispersal policy
  • The transition to new asylum accommodation contracts in 2019
  • Accommodation standards
