Joint Inquiry to question Sir Simon Stevens on the NHS response to the pandemic

The NHS chief executive will appear before the Health and Social Care Committee and Science and Technology Committee as part of the joint inquiry into Coronavirus: lessons learnt.

Purpose of the session

MPs will focus on how the NHS is handling the current wave of the pandemic as well the lessons from the first wave. On the agenda will be the progress of the vaccine roll-out, hospital capacity and infection rates, the pressure on NHS staff as well as the impact to other parts of the health service such as cancer and mental health services.

The session will also consider the key elements of the NHS response to the first wave of covid-19 and how the pandemic could shape the NHS in the longer term. Areas such as the discharge of hospital patients into care homes, NHS preparedness as well as health inequalities are expected to be explored.
