The Foreign Affairs Committee has conducted a visit to the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Mozambique as part of its inquiry into counter-terrorism.

In Mozambique, the Committee met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Finance, and Brigadier General Barassa at the Ministry of National Defence. The Committee also visited the European Union Training Mission academy, in Katembe, met with the World Bank and United Nations agencies, and attended a reception hosted by the British High Commissioner with a range of civil society organisations working on issues related to the conflict in Northern Mozambique, and on preventing conflict-related sexual violence.

In South Africa, meetings were held with: the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), a civil society organisation addressing the challenges posed by conflict; Control Risks, a specialist risk consultancy; and the Institute for Security Studies, a regional think-tank focused on security in Africa.
