Committee takes up concerns of Brits stuck at Spain-Gibraltar border

12 May 2022

The House of Commons European Scrutiny Committee has written to Europe Minister, James Cleverly, after hearing concerns from “a number of British nationals resident in Gibraltar” that they are being refused entry to Spain.

Brits trying to cross the border have reported to the Committee that Spanish border guards are demanding ‘valid reasons’ for entering, preventing family gatherings and hospital appointments. Committee Chairman, Sir Bill Cash, labelled the move a “concerning change in how the border is being administered”. Up to now, British residents in Gibraltar had only needed to show a blue registration card to pass.

The Committee has given Mr Cleverly 10 days to respond.
