Committee publishes update on impact of EU product safety regulations

5 April 2022

The European Scrutiny Committee has issued an update to its analysis on the impact draft EU General Product Safety Regulation on the UK if implemented.

The Committee’s November report on the matter highlighted risks that could affect businesses exporting to the EU, those moving goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland and potentially leave the door open to Britain for EU products that do not meet UK safety standards in the future.

In response to a letter from Committee Chairman, Sir William Cash, the Minister for Small Business, Consumers and Labour Markets, Paul Scully, wrote that the Government had no immediate concerns about the proposals, adding it will continue to monitor developments on the issue.
