Lord Frost to face Committee questioning on NI Protocol
21 October 2021
On 25 October the European Scrutiny Committee questions Lord Frost, the Government’s lead EU negotiator, on the future of the Northern Ireland Protocol and the UK’s negotiations with the EU in respect of new trade and border rules for Gibraltar.
Background
The session comes on the same day the Committee published a report examining how much the UK will owe the EU as a result of the financial settlement in the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement. The report also sheds light on EU delays formalising the participation of UK research institutions in EU programmes as agreed to in the Trade and Cooperation Agreement. It further finds that delays are causing irreversible harm and is eroding the value of taking part. The EU’s research commissioner, Mariya Gabriel, has publicly linked approval of participation on the scheme with the outcome of NI Protocol negotiations.
