Government responds to calls for greater transparency on UK-EU trade deal Joint Committee
6 July 2021
The European Scrutiny Committee published the Government’s response to its report calling for the Ministers to keep Parliament better informed of the work of the Withdrawal Agreement Joint Committee. The Withdrawal Agreement established a ‘Joint Committee’ to oversee the implementation, application and interpretation of the Withdrawal Agreement.
Since the end of the transition period, decisions made at the Joint Committee potentially have enormous economic and political significance, particularly in deciding the goods to be deemed ‘at risk’ of entering the EU Single Market under the Northern Ireland Protocol. Such goods would face tighter restrictions on their entry into Northern Ireland.
