ESNZ Chair thanks all who shared insights to set first Committee priorities for this Parliament

18 November 2024

The Chair of the ESNZ Committee thanks the organisations that came to Parliament to lend their insight to the Committee prior to it setting its first priorities in the new parliament and urges the whole sector to engage with the Committee’s inquires as they are launched.

Chair comment

Bill Esterson MP, Chair of the ESNZ Committee said:

“Early this month we had 61 organisations come to Westminster to engage with the new ESNZ Committee.  Over 100 intense minutes, every member of the Committee was pitched 10 ideas and discussed these in small groups of very bright, informed people who are working on issues of energy security and net zero.

“Energy bills, resilience of the network, the need to upskill our population and workforce, the need for more flexibility in the network, the variety of energy sources that might be deployed and how existing power use might be decarbonised all featured.

“I would like to thank all of those organisations who made their way to Westminster to talk to us and left us more informed than we were before and more fired up for the parliament ahead. We have now launched our first two inquiries and are engaging with the Government bodies whose work we scrutinise.

“I urge everyone working in this sector to lend us their knowledge and insight so that we can ensure the Government is heading in the right direction and delivering affordable energy security for people and businesses while meeting our legal targets to reduce our impact on the planet.”
