Energy Security and Net Zero Chair comments on Budget

31 October 2024

Commenting on today’s Autumn Budget statement, Bill Esterson MP Chair of the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee said: “The Chancellor has described new direction and investment in the UK drive for clean energy, including the development of world-first hydrogen energy facilities. The commitment to Sizewell C brings much needed certainty. This new focus on the longer term is most welcome as we look to meet increasingly challenging goals securing our energy and climate.

“The Committee is currently canvassing the views and priorities of a wide range of stakeholders across the energy security and net zero Department's mission. It is the only Department with the net zero target in the name, but will depend on policies and funding coming together across government. There is now much for the Committee to see in how the government’s plans will create the right policy, financial and technological mix to begin essential progress.”
