Chair-elect of the Energy Security & Net Zero Committee welcomes new head of UK’s Climate Change Committee

10 October 2024

Commenting on the appointment of Emma Pinchbeck, currently head of Energy UK, to chief executive of the UK Climate Change Committee (CCC), Bill Esterson MP Chair-elect said:

“I am very pleased to welcome Emma to this key role as the head of the Climate Change Committee, a ‘critical friend’ advising the Government on the accelerated decarbonisation of our energy supply, that is now essential to deliver the UK’s mission of providing clean power by 2030 and the legally binding target of a Net Zero economy by 2050. Too much time has been lost.

“Emma recognises the way the clean energy transition has moved to the centre of national economic policy, and has built substantial expertise in decarbonising energy from the industrial to impacts at community level. We very much look forward to scrutinising the work of the CCC under her leadership along with that of the wider Department and its mission to deliver both energy security and Net Zero.”
