Lower bills, new jobs, secure energy, reduced emissions: help shape the UK path to Net Zero
18 September 2024
The Chair-elect of the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee is extending an invitation to stakeholders from industry, regulators, science and consumers to help shape proposals for the Committee's new programme of work.
Organisations and individuals with a stake in achieving energy security for the UK within a productive Net Zero economy are invited to join the new Chair-elect of the Committee, Bill Esterson, and other MPs to contribute ideas for inquiries through this Parliament, to assist the new Committee in getting up to speed on the key issues and how it might usefully contribute.
Chair's quote
Following his election as Chair of the Committee, Bill Esterson MP said:
“I am very grateful to have been elected Chair of the Committee working on one of the greatest questions of our time: how to support the transition to a Net Zero economy, securely and sustainably powered by decarbonised energy. There are many challenges in reaching the objective of net zero and these are matched by the opportunities for lower bills, jobs, energy security and reducing emissions.
“The Committee will consult stakeholders across the spectrum to assist us in this task, from government, industry, trade unions, charities and scientists to consumers - starting with a stakeholder event in early November to canvass ideas and open a dialogue for this Parliament’s work.”
Invited participants will be asked to produce a short scoping note proposing ideas for the Committee to inquire into.
Attendees will then have an opportunity to ‘pitch’ and discuss these ideas with Members and other stakeholders present.
The event will be held in Parliament on Tuesday 5 November 2024.
If you are interested in participating please contact the Committee on CommonsESNZ@parliament.uk by 27 September.
