Environmental Audit Committee membership appointed

29 October 2024

The House of Commons has formally appointed the membership of the Environmental Audit Committee.

Each party has its own internal processes for naming its nominations to fill its seats on committees. Individual nominees put forward by political parties were agreed in the House of Commons, following a meeting of the Committee of Selection where the nominations were agreed. The Committee of Selection may propose further names to be added to committees which do not yet have the full complement of members specified in their Standing Order.

Party seat allocations across and within committees is generally proportionate to the number of MPs elected to the House of Commons at the general election, with the precise number negotiated between the party whips through the Committee of Selection.

Toby Perkins MP was elected as Chair of the Environmental Audit Committee by all members of the House of Commons on 11 September.  He takes up his post at the Committee’s first meeting.

Details of meetings and the Committee’s forward programme will be announced in due course.
