Joint Committee on the Draft Mental Health Bill to publish its final Report

The Joint Committee on the draft Mental Health Bill will publish its report at 00.01 on Thursday 19th January.
The report by the Joint Committee follows pre-legislative scrutiny of the Government’s draft Mental Health Bill which aims to modernise the Mental Health Act for the 21st Century.
The inquiry considered the extent to which the draft Bill would achieve the Government’s aims to protect patient choice and ensure that fewer people were detained against their wishes.
The Committee examined changes to detention criteria designed to end inappropriate detention for people with autism and learning disabilities. MPs and Peers considered the draft Bill’s ability to tackle racial disparity and how it interacted with the criminal justice system.
