National Policy Statements: Liaison Committee meets to agree sub-committee members
19 June 2025
The Liaison Committee met on Wednesday 11 June to agree the members of the sub-committee which will handle National Policy Statements.
There are 12 designated National Policy Statements ranging across energy, transport, water, waste water and waste.
National Policy Statements set out the Government’s thinking behind decisions to develop different types of nationally significant infrastructure. These are usually large-scale developments which requires a specific type of consent set out in planning legislation.
Before they are published, National Policy Statements are required to go through an extensive process of consultation which includes a specific level of parliamentary scrutiny. The sub-committee will meet to decide to either refer the scrutiny work to an existing Departmental select committee or establish a dedicated committee.
