Maria Ressa, the joint winner of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize, is giving evidence to the Joint Committee on the Draft Online Safety Bill on Wednesday 24 October.
Maria Ressa is the CEO of Filipino news website Rappler.com, and won this year’s Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her work campaigning for the freedom of the press online.
She will be giving evidence on her personal experience of online abuse threatening journalists, of how digital regulation can be weaponised against free speech, and how the UK can set world standards with the Online Safety Bill.
