Do UK FTAs safeguard food, animal welfare, and environmental standards?

26 February 2024

Continuing its scrutiny of the UK’s food and agricultural trade strategy, the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee Committee investigates issues relating to standards in trade agreements and how far standards are being upheld.

Tuesday 27 February, Committee Room 6, Palace of Westminster

At 2.30pm

  • Jack Simpson, Senior Trade Policy Advisor, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)
  • Orla Delargy, Head of Public Affairs, Sustain
  • Natasha Hurley, Director of Campaigns, Feedback
  • Mark Williams, Chair, British Egg Industry Council

In this evidence session, Committee members question witnesses on the nature and coherence of the UK’s agri-food trade strategy, engagement and consultation, as well as biosecurity and the implementation of the Border Target Operating Model.

The session also looks at the path forward for UK-Canada FTA negotiations, ongoing negotiations between the UK and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and between the UK and India, examining what opportunities and risks these may present.
