23 June 2021
Chair of the recent Select Committee on the Armed Forces Bill, James Sunderland MP, has responded to the Government’s written statement on the Committee’s Special Report.
Responding to the written statement, James Sunderland MP, said:
“As Chair of the recent Select Committee on the Armed Forces Bill, I welcome the Government’s written statement responding to our Special Report. I agree wholeheartedly that the Committee plays a unique and important role in leading the scrutiny of the Armed Forces Bill, which I’m sure that members from both Houses will continue in later stages of consideration.
“The passage of this Bill every five years presents an opportunity for Parliament to reflect on what can be done to improve the lives of service people. I hope that this legislation goes some way towards delivering tangible improvements for our service people, for example in health, education and housing. And with Armed Forces Day this coming Saturday, it is important to remember that we owe an immense debt of gratitude to all members of the Armed Forces, not just to those who are currently serving, but also to veterans, reservists and civil servants, for their selfless actions and sacrifices.”
