Witnesses

Tuesday 5 November in Committee Room 2A, Palace of Westminster

At 3.30pm

  • Darren Hughes, Chief Executive, Electoral Reform Society
  • Michael Sani, Co-founder, Bite the Ballot

Possible questions

  • What reforms are necessary to ensure that the electoral registration system helps facilitate higher levels of democratic engagement?
  • What are the pros and cons of introducing automatic registration in the UK and how might it work?
  • What impact do you think the Government's proposal to introduce voter ID at polling stations will have on tackling fraud and on voter turnout?
  • We have heard that the annual canvass process is confusing for electors. How could it be simplified to make it more accessible for eligible electors?
  • We have heard concerns about the level of funding and resources for electoral administrators to maintain electoral registers and deliver elections. How bad is the situation and what more could be done to support electoral administrators?
  • If there was one thing you could change to improve the Act, what would it be?
