Chair welcomes YCCC coaching staff departure

The Chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee has given the following comment after the announcement by Yorkshire County Cricket Club about the departure of its entire coaching team.

Chair's comment

DCMS Committee Chair Julian Knight MP said:

"We welcome the announcement by Yorkshire County Cricket Club on the departure of its entire coaching staff. The experience of Azeem Rafiq at YCCC demanded no less. On Tuesday we will be discussing racism in cricket with the National Asian Cricket council and considering the ECB's 12-point plan to tackle it."

Tackling racism and discrimination in cricket examined

On Tuesday 7 December the DCMS Committee will take evidence from representatives of Yorkshire-based Asian Cricket League, Quaid e Azam Premier League, and the National Asian Cricket Council. Among issues that MPs are expected to address, the ECB's 12-point plan to tackle racicm and discrimination in cricket, the background to Asian cricket in the UK and the experience of young Asian cricketeres.

The session will also hear from Tracey Crouch MP, Chair of the Independent Fan Led Review of Football Governance.
