Chair comments on announcement that Lord Dyson will lead investigation into BBC’s Princess Diana interview
18 November 2020
DCMS Committee Chair Julian Knight has responded to the announcement that Lord Dyson, former Master of the Rolls, will lead an investigation into claims made by Earl Spencer about how the BBC obtained an interview with Diana, Princess of Wales, screened by the BBC’s Panorama programme in 1995.
DCMS Committee Chair Julian Knight MP said:
“We consider that, given the gravity of the subject, the investigation led by Lord Dyson into events behind the BBC’s interview with the late Diana, Princess of Wales, is the right way to proceed. We will monitor developments as the inquiry goes forward and request to be updated on its progress.
The DCMS Committee has no plans to hold its own inquiry into this matter, however we will review the outcome and reserve a decision on whether any further action should be taken at that point. The ongoing scrutiny of the work of the BBC will always be a priority for this Committee as part of its remit to hold the broadcaster to account.”
