Chair comments on today’s publication of EHRC report into BBC pay discrimination

12 November 2020

DCMS Committee Chair Julian Knight has responded to today’s publication by the Equality and Human Rights Commission of a report into pay discrimination against women at the BBC.

DCMS Committee Chair Julian Knight MP said:

“We welcome today’s report from the EHRC into equal pay at the BBC which finds that the corporation has recognised that its previous approach was not fit for purpose.

“The predecessor DCMS Committee led the charge on this, setting up an inquiry within weeks of the resignation of BBC former China Editor Carrie Gracie who alleged a pay culture that discriminated against women.

“Today’s report acknowledges that the BBC has made significant improvements. We will continue to monitor the action the EHRC is calling for, specifically in the leadership of the BBC and how it ensures non-discriminatory pay systems to ensure the restoration of trust and transparency.”
