Industry representatives to tell MPs what barriers remain to future-proofing our digital networks
18 September 2020
MPs hear from the mobile and broadband industries on what’s required to meet the Government’s ambition of nationwide gigabit-capable broadband by 2025 and 5G by 2027.
- Parliament TV: Broadband and the road to 5G
- Inquiry: Broadband and the road to 5G
- Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee
Purpose of the session
The first session of the inquiry into Broadband and the Road to 5G will focus on:
- what more the Government needs to do to remove barriers to the roll-out of full-fibre and 5G infrastructure;
- what policy and regulatory changes are needed to ensure these upgrades reach every corner of the UK in time;
- the impact of the recent decision to exclude Huawei from the 5G network; and
- long-standing issues of digital exclusion and underinvestment in rural areas.
The Committee heard evidence from Which? and the CBI on the importance of good-quality mobile and broadband connections for consumers and businesses, particularly during the Covid-19 outbreak, as part of a separate inquiry into the impact of Covid-19 on DCMS sectors.
