DCMS Committee to hear from charity sector over current crisis

27 March 2020

Charities will address MPs over the level of Government support needed to ensure their survival as a result of pressures caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

The DCMS Committee will convene remotely on Tuesday 31 March to consider the increased demand facing charities at a time of growing financial pressures, with the future of some organisations being put at risk. MPs are also concerned about the long-term impact on charities.

Immediate action needed

Chair Julian Knight MP has urged the Government to take immediate action to safeguard the sector. DCMS Secretary of State Oliver Dowden has been called upon to confirm whether funding would be available for charitable and voluntary organisations working directly on tackling coronavirus and to charities at risk of insolvency.

Witnesses

At 2.15pm:

  • Karl Wilding, Chief Executive, NCVO (National Council for Voluntary Organisations)
  • Martin Houghton-Brown, CEO, St John Ambulance

Please note that further witnesses may be added.
