The DCMS Committee hears from Caroline Dinenage MP, Minister of State for Digital and Culture, on the government's response to recommendations made in the Committee's report on the impact of Covid-19 on charities and voluntary organisations.

Purpose of the session

MPs will focus on practical and financial challenges facing the performing arts and the situation in the wider creative industries, the impact of Government support for employees and freelance workers in the creative sectors, and what support is needed for creative industries such as theatre and live music to reopen as lockdown measures are lifted.

  • Submission from Shadow Culture Minister Tracy Brabin outlining the economic impacts of the current crisis on freelancers and self-employed workers in the creative industries with 'heartbreaking' comments.
  • Submission from the Musicians' Union representing more than 32,000 professional musicians which highlighted a members' survey showing 92% had been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.
