Lord Speaker's Committee to report in October

4 July 2017

The Lord Speaker has made an announcement about the progress of the work of the Committee looking at the size of the House of Lords.

The Lord Speaker has made the following announcement:

"On 20 December 2016 I reported to the House that I had established a committee under the chairmanship of Lord Burns to examine the possible methods by which the House could be reduced in size.

I understand that the Committee has made good progress, but the unexpected dissolution of Parliament meant that a significant number of planned meetings could not take place. The Committee cannot therefore report by the summer as originally planned.

Lord Burns has asked me whether the Committee could instead report in October, and I have agreed to this request."
