How have TTIP negotiations informed future UK-US trade talks?

The International Trade Committee begin taking evidence in their inquiry into UK-US trade relations when they hear from Edward Barker, Director of Trade Strategy & Capability at the Department for International Trade.

Purpose

The session examines what the UK can learn from recent trade negotiations with the United States.

Focusing on the EU's Transatlantic Investment and Trade Partnership (TTIP) talks with the US, the Committee will look at progress made on the removal of tariffs and non-tariff barriers in sectors such as agriculture, vehicles and financial services; the impact of TTIP on public services; and negotiations on investor-state dispute settlement.

Appearing before the Committee in February, Secretary of State Dr Liam Fox indicated that British officials would begin initial discussions in February on scoping a trade deal. The Committee considers how the TTIP experience might inform UK-US talks.
