Background

The UK has not published any draft treaty text relating to foreign policy, defence or development as part of the future relationship negotiations, whilst the EU is seeking an overarching treaty that includes foreign policy, security and defence provisions. The revised Political Declaration also commits both sides to promoting sustainable development and the eradication of poverty.

Purpose of the session

In this session, the Committee will consider the two sides' positions and their implications. It will also consider the UK's options for any future co-operation on foreign, defence and development policy with the EU, wider Europe and other key global partners.
