Purpose of the session
On 12 June, the UK Government announced that border controls for goods arriving in the UK from the European Union would be introduced in stages between 1 January 2021 and 1 July 2021. In this session, the Committee will examine how the Government's plans compare with current border operations, and the implications for UK businesses. It is also expected to consider what preparations are required before the new arrangements enter into force, and what trade facilitation measures might be agreed with the EU before 31 December.
The Committee will question representatives from the Port of Dover, Freight Transport Association, and KGH Global Consulting.
